| This Clamshell Raku Kiln is constructed from high temperature fiber in an expanded metal frame. The sides fold down to offer unparalled access to the hot ware. One person can easily fire this kiln, loading and unloading it without assistance. Heating takes about 20 to 30 minutes using the provided propane tank and burner. Insulating firebrick in a welded steel frame form the base of the kiln. The folding sides are made of expanded metal and angle iron. They hinge from the base and are lined with 1inch thick ceramic fiber. Two vent holes on top of the kiln can be covered to allow control of the firing. Large "peep" holes on two sides give easy visiblity within the kiln to check on cones. The kiln is fired with a 75,000 BTU venturi burner in a fixed frame. Modular construction allows easy dismantling for storage or transportation. With the added casters the kiln can be moved in and out of your space. The optional thermocouple safety shut off system and pilot light will complete your system. | ||
