Could This be The World's Finest Series IIa Land-Rover?
1969 Series IIa Deluxe Safari Station Wagon with tropical roof panel. Although it has been nearly thirty years since it last saw the production line at Solihull; in our showroom, this Land-Rover was frequently mistaken as never having been owned or driven; in other words, still showroom new. The restoration of this vehicle took place in the early nineties over a period of two years, and when completed, won British Northwest Land-Rover Company innumerable best in class, best in all Rover classes, first place, etc., even when up against a hundred or more competitors. The machine is exceptional inasmuch as it has accumulated fewer than two thousand miles per year in its 29-year history. One of the finest Land-Rovers ever acquired and restored by The British Northwest Land-Rover Company, no expense was spared in bringing this rare machine to its present-day condition. In every respect it accelerates, steers, shifts, brakes and corners as would a showroom-new Land-Rover. Specially built at the Rover factory for a U.S. Army major general, this Land-Rover is like no other we have ever encountered. Factory fitted with the Lucas high-output alternator and Smiths in-dash volt meter, this vehicle was specified as a NADA (North American Dollar Area) station wagon. British Northwest fitted a superlative factory tropical roof with alpine lights and ventilators, a set of four individual rear jump seats with seat belts and harnesses in six positions. Detailing of the engine compartment took place over a period of no fewer than six weeks, and both a twin-zone alarm system and ten-speaker stereo were also professionally installed. The electronics package is a discretely installed system. Its presence is virtually undetectable from outside the vehicle. Although available through no other supplier in the world, British Northwest Land-Rover replaced every lamp lens on the vehicle with factory-new units. While Land-Rovers are available in a wide variety of conditions, as restoration specialist of Land-Rovers exclusively for three decades, I would place this machine in the top one percent of Series II Land-Rovers in North America. It is by far and away the finest, most original and correct Land-Rover I have ever encountered, either here in America or in England.
