Extreme Duty Half-Shaft's

In our estimation the Extreme Duty Half-Shafts have many advantages over the Salisbury. The Salisbury requires its own special drive shaft and is very heavy and expensive to ship. In addition one would have to change over the brake hydraulic equipment, change over the vacuum plates, shoes and drums etc. Not to mention the additional expense of a new and correct drive shaft. The Salisbury is not a perfect axle although many claim it to be, as the pinion nut is prone to backing off, which may go unnoticed, causing the differential to be destroyed. Unlike the Rover differential the Salisbury required a special tool just to disassemble it whereas the Rover unit can be field stripped for replacement. The British Northwest Extreme Duty Half-Shafts can be owner installed in well under an hour, whereas the Salisbury installation would take the better part of a day in professional hands. The theory is promulgated that Land Rover intended their half-shafts to be weak to ''protect the rest of the drive line''. In our estimation that is a myth with no real basis in fact. Land Rover upgraded the gearbox, differential, drive shafts but for some reason never strengthened the half axles. Why would a company with a world-beating reputation intentionally design a weak point in one of their vehicles?
